ITALIAN BOMB RIDDIM (Adriatic Sound Prod. 2019) Ft. Anthony B, Elephant Man, Bay C, Likkle Charlie, Rankin Lele & Papa Leu

From the shores of Salento, in South Italy, production duo Papa Leu and Rankin Lele aka Adriatic Sound have built the “Italian Bomb Riddim” dropped last 25th of January 2019. The riddim itself invokes a late 90’s early 2000 dancehall vibe; a driving bass-line with a teasing, guitar heavy, steel pan tinged melody that makes a direct connection. The select crew of 3 dancehall mainstays: Bay C, Elephant Man and Anthony B, deliver equally classic dancehall performances. Fresh talent from yard is given a focus on the Likkle Charlie track, while the producers, Rankin Lele and Papa Leu themselves deliver the fifth track of the juggling.

A “High Grade” track, is what Anthony B brings to the juggling, with a vibrant declaration of his sacramental use of cannabis. In “Welcome to Italy”, Elephant Man shares his love for all Italian things. From Salento to shoes, Ele is back at his lyrical best, delivering a track that captures the joyful irreverence of the south coast and connects it to his Jamaican core. Bay C, from TOK family, similarly cross connects cultures in “Pepper Pot”, voicing his appreciation for the ladies, especially Salento’s scotch bonnet hot senoritas, in patois and in Italian! Salentino dialect is less known than patois, but Rankin Lele and Papa Leu’s delivery of “Prova Cu Te Movi” showcase it in a way that already has the streets of Salento buzzing. In a listening, the riddim gives the sense that Likkle Charlie’s “Walk and Talk” is as much an order to all listeners, as it is a playful freestyle by the relative unknown.

The last track of the compilation, in perfect Jamaican style, is the instrumental “Italian Bomb Riddim”, produced by Rankin Lele and Papa Leu for Adriatic Sound and arranged with the drummer Antonio “Fossa Drummer” Miglietta and the keyboardist Alessandro “Maestro” Garofalo. Recorded in Salento, in Italy between Adriatic Sound Studio and Sud Sound System Studio, and mastered by Jamoi “J-twiss” Monteith at the Clearsonix Production Studio of Kingston in Jamaica.

Big tings a gwaan inna Italy!!!

Gege Vibes meets Sean “Pow” Diedrick in O2 Academy Brixton (London) during Damian Marley Uk Tour Summer 2018. Once again we got an interview with Sean aka Di Producer, owner of the label Young Pow Production, that impressed us by his musical achievements. Indeed, the polyhedral artist is the grammy keyboard player and producer of the year for the credits he gave on Stony Hill Album: R.O.A.R., Autumn Leaves, Slave Mills, Time Travel and the most of the tracks. At the beginning of 2018 he released “Destiny Riddim”, a compilation with various reggae artists. Basically. he decided to remix the famous tune “Where we come from” of Popcaan, juggling the riddim and involving other names as I-Octane, Christopher Ellis, Alaine, Press Kay, Answele, Sowflo, Black Am I and Irie SoulJah. It was nice that on the same instrumental have participated mainstream and upcoming artists from different places as Jamaica, Miami, Spain and Uk. It was a success distributed by Ghetto Youths International with important credits by Sherieta and Baby G. “Di producer” shared his point of view explaining us how he built his own independent project. For the new year there are a new productions to be released, as for example some unfinished Chronixx and Sean Paul. Definitely, Sean is leaving his mark on the World in the name of his original place: Orange Hill, Brown’s Town

DJ’S & PRODUCERS COLUMN / Gege Vibes introduces the young producer Frank Filograna from Salento, Italy (Germaica Digital)

Frank Filograna is an italian reggae dj & producer based on Salento (South Italy). He is 31 years old, but already active from about sixteen years.

At the beginning he was a component of ”Selection Master”, a very musically prolific crew from his area. Secondly, he founded his label “Filomuzik” and soon after it becames part of the independent “Unemployment Records”, with witch he realizes many international collaborations publishing roots and dub vinyls.

Actually he is a member of ”Veebrazion”, an historic local sound system from Salento and also responsible for programming and promoting musical events in his peninsula.

His style is a roots/dub with a touch of hip-hop and soul, influenced by the Jamaican and Uk scene.

Among his productions we can often find also remixes. In this field, when Frank is attracted by some specific world success, he tries to reinterpret them in very personal reggae-hiphop key.

This is also the case of “Rockstar”, whose melody of the refrain and the Post Malone flow have captured Frank so much to take him, together with Adriano Sure, to give life to a captivating version of this worldwide hit. Then, Frank Filograna started the collaboration with Fabi Benz, a popular dj’s and producer from Germany. This link up allowed Frank to meet the boss of Germaica Digital (the prestigious german label well known for the production of Riddims as Doctor Darling Riddim) that decided to produce it.
