We interviewed Leighton Paul Walsh, better known by his stage name Walshy Fire via Skype. Grammy Award Winning Jamaican American DJ, MC and producer, Walshy Fire had so many memories to share with us. His musical journey is very long and full of accomplishments. He started with his first sound called Change Disco when he was 18, then he continued to play with Coppershot, Black Chiney and 9 years ago he started his prolific union with the brand Major Lazer. This collaboration made him travel all over the World smashing up every single place. He used a mainstream formula to promote jamaican sonorities and that’s the key of his huge success. Walshy Fire would like to see a different highlight for Jamaican artists internationally like it’s happening right now with his ward Koffee. Not by chance, he got the Grammy to produce her major hit “Toast”.
Gege Vibes interviews the renowned singer of the worldwide musical scene Sean Paul. Today Sean is a mainstream artist and his songs are really famous from all over the world, in every radio station or in every musical tv channel. He explains us how the jamaican origins and his culture have also influenced his music.
After 20 years of career, Sean Paul give us his opinions about dancehall that considers an evolution. He supports the new talents from his beautiful island and so introduces to our microphones his young jamaican artist Chi Ching Ching, already popular for his dancing tunes as “Rock the world” and “Roast or fry -Breadfruit”. Un’inaugurazione col botto quella del prossimo 15 ottobre all’IstanbulCafe Eventi di Squinzano (Le). Il noto locale salentino infatti da il via alla stagione 2016/2017 con un grande live : unica data in Italia dell’artista dancehall jamaicano Mad Cobra. Ormai considerato un veterano e sulla scena dal 1991 quest’ultimo torna in zona dove mancava da anni per poter far ascoltare anche ai fans sud italiani più giovani il suo flow inarrestabile. Scoperto dal grande producer Donovan Germain, sebbene sia inattivo discograficamente dal 2009, sono tante le collabo importanti a cui ha partecipato negli ultimi tempi. Ad esempio nel celebre brano Ghetto Boy di Stephen Marley assieme a Bounty Killer. O ancora nel progetto “Peace is a mission” del team Major Lazer nella combo “Night Riders”. Insomma chi ama queste vibes non può perdersi questo esclusivo show. Ma le sorprese non finiscono qua. Infatti i promoter dell’IstanbulCafe eventi hanno pensato a una sorpresa anche per le ragazze più appassionate allo stile danzereccio dancehall. Ed ecco che sul palco troveremo un’altra special guest : la dancehall queen newyorkese B-Randi. Di ritorno a Lecce, dopo il workshop pomeridiano organizzato da Aurora Rah per permettere alle ballerine di potersi formare almeno un’ora e mezza con questa grande artista, farà la propria esibizione serale proprio all’Instabul Cafe. Sarà un piacere vederla in movimento dal momento che stiamo parlando di una super professionista che si è aggiudicata nel corso della sua carriera tanti titoli. Ha vinto infatti per due volte quello di DHQ Usa ed una volta quello di Champion Bubber di New York. Anche in Jamaica ha spopolato all’International Dancehall Queen di Montego Bay. La poliedrica dancer ha inoltre una propria linea di abbigliamento Queen Style, per permettere ad ogni donna di riconoscere e sprigionare la propria femminilità. Il suo brand “Royal Tee” è stato creato nel 2011. Ad aprire e a concludere la serata del prossimo 15 ottobre all’Istanbul Cafe ci saranno i resident sound salentini presenti per tutta la stagione: Mighty Bass, Run It Sound, Filograna, Mr Minime, Hypest Team. Continua il viaggio di Gege Vibes nel mondo della dancehall. Questa volta l’ intervistato è Famous (Jason Nenbhard), il popolarissimo dancehall dancer giamaicano della Collo Squad Crew. Specialista nella old, middle e new school, Famous è anche insegnante coreografo nella scuola di Latonya Style: Danceja, la più importante istituzione danzereccia a Kingston e nella notissima Dance Xpressionz della Xpressionz Family.
L’artista inoltre ha preso parte a moltissimi video-clip musicali tra i più famosi del genere come ad esempio “Watch out for this”di Major Lazer feat Busy Signal, “Mr Wacky” di RDX, “Round the clock/down down” di Mr. Vegas e ultimamente “Roast or fry (Breadfruit)” di Chi Chi Ching.
Gege Vibes l’ha incontrato a Bari (Sud Italia) e ha passato la giornata in sua compagnia al fine di approfondire la sua storia e tutti gli steps da lui creati come easy skunk, ash, famous flow,etc…
Con i suoi racconti ci ha permesso di arricchirci sulla cultura dell’Isola del Mar delle Antille e ci ha fatto anche ballare ricordandoci che da marzo Famous è disponibile per il suo European Tour.
