Today is out the new single “Self-Fulfilment” from the Jamaican reggae singer The Carey James. He’s a multi-faceted recording Artist, song writer, musician and producer based in Kingston, Jamaica. Armed with a plethora of lyrics, talent and the attitude to excel, he aims to give listeners an euphoric feeling each time they hear his music.
The featuring of this week on our web magazine is dedicated to a Jamaican hype reggae artist: I-Octane. After the release, in march 2018, of his solo album “Love and life”, he decided to self-produce a single called “Hot World” for his own label Conquer The Globe Productions.
“There will be a day when I just want to ease back and watch the fruits of my labour. This label is already doing that with this song. Production is a very important aspect of the music, and when you sit back and bask in the fact that you created this art from scratch, both vocally and musically, the feeling is great,” he said to other Jamaican newspapers.

The 31st of December 2017 Gege Vibes Magazine has celebrated his second anniversary ending a very intense year full of worldwide experiences. Gege Vibes moved from Italy to Uk, touring in Netherlands and in Jamaica. We thought to realize a video recap of 2017 to summarize all the emotions. Under the link is possible to read the video’s descriptions.
1) Luciano Messenjah Greeting. We met Luciano after his great show in Utrecht (Nl) where he performed with Freddie McGregor. Our interview together was the most spiritual of the year and I could feel the positive energy inside him. He taughts me the importance to feel the rasta vibes in the heart.
2) Swele Greeting. Swele is a new talent from Jamaica. He’s only 20 years old. His history and his voice passionated Gege Vibes Team that decided to promote him in Europe waiting for his tour 2018.
3) Italee Greeting. I had a special interview with this strong jamaican lioness during the last edition of Casalabate Music Festival in Salento (Italy). Every year the last performance of this festival is the selection of David Rodigan. The Queen gave thanks to Gege Vibes Magazine to carry the flag of reggae in the medias area.
4) Sean Paul & Chi Ching Ching Greeting. In 2017 we followed a lot of Sean Paul & Chi Ching Ching’s shows in Uk, Italy and Jamaica. We selected some shootings of their live on the prestigious stage of Reggae Sumfest – Montego Bay (Jamaica) and in Gallipoli (Italy) where Gege Vibes interviewed the multiplatinum singer and his artist.
5) Julian Marley Greeting. One of the son of reggae Legend Bob Marley. He announced his new album coming soon. We are waiting for his new tour to set the shooting of the video interview together.
6) Spice Greeting. We interviewed Spice in Salento (Italy). We talked about the role of the woman in the dancehall and about the explicit sexual lyrics in her songs. Definitely, the female dancehall boss has the lady side, but also the gangsta side.
7) A little immersion in our cultural trip in Jamaica of this summer with Richie Stephens and the Ska Nation Band following “Kingston-Salento International Tour”. We selected the performances of Richie Stephens, Ska Nation Band and Sud Sound System in the museum “Jamaican Institute” and a frame of Richie Stephens & the Ska Nation Band’s show in Reggae Sumfest Jamaica.
8) Mr. Vegas Greeting. The “blessed” jamaican artist donated his greeting before his show in Salento for “I am Black and White – Christmas Concert” promoted by Adriatic Sound.
9) Sean Diedrick aka “Young Pow” Greeting. “2018 is all Gege”, said the brilliant producer that is popular as Damian Marley’s keyboarder too. In 2018 will be surprises because it’s the year to build big stuffs together and to spread the vibes of all the nice Young Pow’s productions through our channels.
10) Courtney Bam Diedrick Greeting. Bam Drumz is the historical Jr Gong’s drummer. He represents for our column 2018 “Drums & Rhythm” . We will go deeply in the magic world of the percussions interviewing the best drummers of the worldwide scene. Stay tuned !
11) Damian Marley Greeting. We had the pleasure to see once again a performance of Jr Gong last june in Gallipoli (Italy). So we interviewed Damian one month before the release of his last album “Stony Hill”. Some months later, in November to be exactly, ‘Gong Zilla’ won the Mobo Award for the Best Reggae Act. Naturally, the video ends with the special greeting of the best Bob’s legacy.

“Jamaica Land We love” è il video reportage realizzato dal team Gege Vibes in occasione del tour internazionale “Kingston Salento” 2017 di Richie Stephens & The Ska Nation Band. Gege Vibes decide di scoprire le vibes dell’isola insieme alla crew italo jamaicana. Ospiti speciali del tour anche i noti singers made in Salento Sud Sound System.
Un viaggio che abbiamo cercato di raccontare attraverso le riprese : da Kingston ad Oracabessa, dal palco dell’International Reggae Sumfest di Montego Bay a quello del ReggaeJam in Germania dove Richie Stephens & the Ska Nation Band si sono esibiti lo scorso luglio, dalle dancehall ad Hellshire Beach sulle coste di Portmore agli eventi culturali come la presentazione del tamburello di Torre Paduli (Salento) all’Institute of Jamaica, ovvero il museo nazionale degli strumenti musicali. La Jamaica può sembrare una terra ricca di contraddizioni, per certi versi povera e cruenta, ma assolutamente affascinante per tutto il resto. E soprattutto unica per la musica vissuta dall’intera popolazione come la componente più identitaria dell’Isola. I colori, i profumi, la gente calorosa e sempre sorridente, l’oceano, i paesaggi suggestivi, le colline sinuose da un lato e le spiagge incontaminate dall’altro non possono che averci confermato quanto la Jamaica sia un luogo in grado di stregare il cuore. Ed è col cuore che abbiamo cercato di riassumere in un video questa esperienza indimenticabile. Un ringraziamento speciale a Richie Stephens, Ska Nation Band e Puglia Sounds.

“Sud Sound System for We Africa”. L’appuntamento è per il prossimo 20 maggio alle Manifatture Knos (Via Vecchia Frigole, Lecce). Il popolare trio salentino alla vigilia dell’uscita del nuovo album “Eternal Vibes” ha deciso di promuovere un proprio live benefit cooperando con l’agenzia Molly Arts per sostenere l’associazione We Africa to Red Earth che da tre anni agisce a livello umanitario con la mission di fornire alle popolazioni del Burkina Faso quanto necessario per vivere in condizioni dignitose.
783 milioni sono le persone che nel Mondo non hanno accesso all’acqua potabile, 2000 bambini muoiono ogni giorno a causa delle acque contaminate e delle cattive condizioni igieniche. È stato dimostrato che fornire acqua potabile e servizi igienici può ridurre le vittime del 65%. L’obiettivo del concerto è proprio quello di finanziare, con il ricavato, la costruzione di un nuovo pozzo in un Paese in cui tante persone sono ancora oggi costrette a camminare per oltre dieci chilometri per rifornirsi di un secchio d’acqua potabile. Lo scopo finale è dare alla popolazione locale il diritto alla salute che dovrebbe essere garantito istituzionalmente ad ogni cittadino.
“Sud Sound System for We Africa” rappresenterà una delle prime tappe del nuovo tour europeo della band made in Salento che, dopo aver lavorato in studio per tutto l’inverno sul nuovo lavoro la cui uscita è prevista per questa estate, è pronta per tornare a calcare i palchi europei partendo proprio dalla loro Lecce. Ma le vibes dei Sud Sound System arriveranno anche quest’anno oltre oceano in quanto è prevista la loro partecipazione al “Sum fest” di Montego Bay (Jamaica) in compagnia di Richie Stephens & The Ska Nation Band.
La line up degli artisti che saliranno con i Sud Sound System sul palco delle Manifatture Knos è bella ricca e verrà annunciata integralmente a ridosso della data stessa. Altri special guests invece saranno una sorpresa da scoprire direttamente quella sera. E’ un dovere per tutti abbracciare questa causa e dare il proprio contributo per aiutare chi è più sfortunato di noi. “Acqua pe sta terra” si chiamava un vecchio disco dei Sud Sound System ed il titolo del medesimo costituisce un vero e proprio slogan contro la lesione dei diritti dell’uomo. E’ inaccettabile che nella società del consumo e dello spreco ci sia invece un terzo Mondo abbandonato da tutti in cui nel 2017 si continua a soccombere per mancanza dei beni più primari.

Correva l’anno 1996 a Kingston quando due artisti giamaicani il dj Bounty Killer ed il cantante Richie Stephens diedero vita ad una canzone chiamata “Maniac”, inclusa nell’album “My Xperience” di Bounty. La combination si rivelò virale e contribuì al moltiplicarsi delle produzioni musicali all’interno della scena dancehall mondiale.
Quasi 22 anni dopo, Bounty e Richie hanno deciso di collaborare di nuovo, questa volta accompagnati dalla band italiana Ska Nation su una nuova traccia Ska intitolata “Bad Boys In Town” prodotta dalle etichette Pot of Gold & Adriatic Sound.
“Più di 20 anni fa ebbi un nuovo riddim e cercai un giovane artista per fare un featuring” ha ricordato Stephens “Mi venne subito in mente Bounty. Così lo raggiunsi nei Seaview Gardens dove abitava per giocare sul riddim insieme a lui. Lo stile unico di Bounty combinato con i miei vocali baritoni profondi si rivelò magico all’epoca e come dice la massive tutto il resto è storia”.
La nuova canzone Ska “Bad Boys in town” ed il relativo videoclip ufficiale è appena online su Youtube.
“Bounty è stato molto ricettivo quando ho lanciato questo nuovo progetto, siamo buoni amici e rispettiamo ogni altro talento. Siamo entrambi molto preoccupati riguardo a quello che succede musicalmente in Giamaica e sull’eredità che stiamo lasciando ai giovani di oggi. Il genere Ska è una componente importante della nostra storia musicale e negli ultimi anni è stato un po’ troppo accantonato. E’ il momento per noi di abbracciare il nostro passato e di riportarlo in auge nel modo più positivo possibile”, ha osservato ancora Richie.
Il video musicale di “Bad Boys In Town” è stato girato a Kingston qualche settimana fa e vede la partecipazione di alcune giovani e talentuose ballerine del territorio. La release video arriva poco prima della prossima performance di Stephens & Ska Nation Band al Reggae Sumfest 2017, che si svolgerà a Montego Bay il prossimo luglio.
