On August 28th 2021, was officially released the videoclip of “Nothing Like Love”, song by J Written. The track was pre-released on Reggaeville in July 2021 and has been gaining traction.
J Written is a young reggae Artist from Kingston, Jamaica. Written’s artistic nature and vibe heard and seen clearly throughout the entire video gives the audience an easy going feeling while successfully sending a message of love to the listener.
“Love is not just the opposite of hate, it is the original feeling when something is beautiful and everything is beautifully created by the Most High” – J-Written said when we asked about the meaning of the tune.
Gege Vibes Magazine met the jamaican reggae singer Dawn Penn after her show in Brixton Jamm (London). Her carreer was started in the rocksteady era, between 1967 and 1969, but she is well known especially for her single that became a worldwide hit in 1994 “You don’t love me… No no no”.
G.V. : Good Afternoon and Thank you for having me. I wanna start to talk about you mentioning your most famous song “You don’t love me (No no no)” extracted from the album “No no no”. Why do you think that version made you so popular ?
D.P. Honestly, was the first time experiencing lost love. It was made me popular even because of the way I delivered it and I guess I had a special kay to interpretate it. Plus it was already popular in Jamaica since 1968. The song was recorded so many times, by me most of the times in dubs, but also by International Artists, Wu-Tang Clan, J. Mills, Lily Allen, Beyonce, Rihanna, Sean Paul and more.
G.V. Indeed . “You don’t love me, No no no” was an international hit that reached a lot of charts : in Jamaica, America and Europe. While what about your prestigious works with the legendary Studio One in Jamaica.
D.P. What I could say ? I was just another artist passing through this big jamaican studio full of talents and history. I knew most of the artists there.
G.V. Tell us something about the best experiences of your carreer in Uk and especially here in London.
D.P. Experiences of my career in UK was “Top of the Pops” when I entered in the British Charts at Number 9 after I signed to WEA Corporation. Performing alongside MADNESS at Finsbury Park. When I came back when it was Number 3 alongside two hits songs as “Wet,Wet,Wet and “Big Mountain”.
G.V. What is your biggest satisfaction in your musical journey.
D.P. My biggest satisfaction is I was celebrating 50 years playing music last year and I’ll continue to feel the vibe.

Il 30 aprile il grande bus rosso, giallo e verde del Rototom & Friends Europe ha finalmente fatto sosta a Maglie, paesino nei pressi di Lecce, per una grande tappa salentina ospitata nella struttura delle Industrie Musicali. Dopo infiniti km percorsi e tante città europee visitate : da Varsavia ad Amsterdam, da Praga a Barcellona è arrivato il turno delle date Italiane.
Abbiamo intervistato Lampa Dread, uno dei portavoce viventi del Rototom Sunsplash nonché membro dello storico sound system di Roma One Love Hi Powa, il quale ha spiegato ai nostri microfoni il senso di questo tour per il Continente con lo scopo di portare dappertutto un piccolo pezzetto del festival ufficiale che si tiene tutte le estati a Benicassim in Spagna. Parlando della line up del main stage del Rototom Sunsplash 2016 abbiamo constatato che quest’esperienza bisogna provarla almeno una volta nella vita se si ha la passione per la reggae e la dancehall music !
Abbiamo incontrato Raphael durante la tappa salentina del Rotom & friends Europe che si è tenuta lo scorso 30 aprile alle Industrie Musicali di Maglie (Le). L’artista genovese con origini nigeriane ha avuto il piacere di prendere parte alle date italiane di questo tour, che ha girato 16 diverse città d’Europa, e ci ha raccontato in diretta la sua testimonianza su quest’esperienza. Un’occasione che è venuta quasi in concomitanza con l’uscita del suo ultimo disco “Reggae Survival” dello scorso 22 aprile per l’etichetta americana “Sugar Cane Records”.
In quest’intervista video ci parla del progetto discografico in questione, suo secondo album da solista, e di quanto il reggae gli appartenga poiché genere capace di mescolare alle vibes positive anche la denuncia sociale. Seguendo la filosofia del Marley il cantante ci spiega che si rivede in questo leggendario personaggio e nei suoi messaggi d’amore universale, frutto del meltin’ pot in cui Bob era cresciuto. La sua musica rappresenta una vera e propria ispirazione per chi come Raphael si sente un po’ ibrido e ha genitori di diverse nazionalità : la madre infatti è italiana ed il padre africano. Insomma la voce reggae per eccellenza di Savona è ormai figlio del Mondo ricordando la propria identità, ma avendo una forma mentis capace di aprirsi alle altre culture, in primis a quella giamaicana.
